REVIEW : Coriolis - The Last Cyclade

Coriolis – The Last Cyclade is the second part of the Mercy of the Icons campaign for the Coriolis roleplaying game. The adventure book continues an epic science fiction tale begun in Emissary Lost. The Last Cyclade has an incredible scope and scale, giving an expansive view of The Third Horizon. Prior to this, Emissary Lost had centered on the Coriolis station and the planet Kua, which it orbits. In The Last Cyclade, player characters get to explore more of the setting, with the opportunity to visit some of the faction strongholds.

The game system overall is really good and the storyline of this campaign is intriguing. However, I find there’s a lot more railroading of the players than I’d like. The finale of this release forces the gamemaster to set the player characters on the outside looking in at the epic events which unfold. Your mileage will certainly vary, especially if your players are more interested playing in a story as opposed to writing the tale with their own deeds.

The artwork in this book is amazing and it really helps to set the mood for each chapter. The layout is easy to read and follow along with, making it easy to find what you’re looking for when you need it.

Overall, Coriolis – The Last Cyclade is a great addition to any science fiction roleplaying game collection. It’s well written, well designed, and well executed. If you’re looking for a new campaign to play with your friends or just want something different from your usual games, then I highly recommend giving this one a try.
